A Fair Deal

    In these turbulent economic times, we know that our clients are watching every penny. At Hurley Stanners, LLC we strive to become business partners, trusted advisors and even friends to our clients. That's why we have reviewed our billing practices and are proud to announce some innovative responses to controlling your legal costs. 

    Free Questions: At Hurley Stanners, we want our clients to call us with questions. We have found time and time again that a simple question asked early in your decision making process or when a problem originates can save you countless hours of legal fees later down the road. We recognize that some of our clients hesitate to call us because they imagine the meter running as soon as the phone gets picked up. Taking steps to alleviate your concerns, we are instituting a free morning call in hour. Monday through Friday (excluding Tuesdays) you can call us between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and ask any question you want. We'll provide complementary legal advice that will help you better understand a business decision, prevent a costly mistake or simply give you peace of mind about your intentions. We ask that you respect our time and keep your questions brief. Should our conversation go beyond fifteen minutes, we'll give you the option of continuing our discussion on a billable basis. Is there fine print? We're lawyers, so of course there is: to take advantage of this offer, you must be an existing client and current on your account. 

    New Clients: When you are deciding which legal professional to work with, you need to talk to a few lawyers and get the read of the land. We understand that. Therefore, we provide up to thirty (30) free minutes of a meeting/conference call with potential clients. All that we ask is that you let us know your goals, background and the background of any issues you have so that we can decide if the issue(s) is one that we can help you resolve and that you respect our time. It is reasonable to talk to a few attorneys in making the decision on whom to work with, more than that wastes time for you and us. 

    CAVEAT: If you have an emergency and need us to start work on the spot with our representation, then we will need to go on the clock after we have understood your goals, background and issues.

General Notes on Billing Policies:

1. We charge the same rate for telephone calls as we do for drafting as we can save you time and money in either event. Otherwise we would need to charge you more for drafting and we would prefer not to raise our rates in this economy.
2. We charge at increments of a 10th of an hour.
3. We do not generally charge for brief e-mail correspondence.
4. We charge one half of our travel time, if total travel time exceeds one (1) hour.
5. We do not charge you if we take you out to lunch or dinner and pay the tab. That just does not sound fair.
